Last month, the Army Corps of Engineer’s Alternative 20—the preferred habitat restoration plan for 11 miles of the Los Angeles River—completed a critical stage of the federal process. In light of this, TPR spoke with two experts on the waterway: Lewis MacAdams, president and co-founder of Friends of the Los Angeles River, and Barbara Romero, Deputy Mayor for City Services and a member of the LA River Revitalization Corporation Board. They commented on funding and implementation challenges still ahead, as well as offering perspectives on Frank Gehry’s recently revealed involvement (at the invitation of the LA Mayor) in river revitalization.
“In the last 24 months, almost half of Frogtown have traded,” says architect and RAC DB principal Rick Cortez, “Though physically the neighborhood has not changed, it’s actually has, there is a completely new owner pool.”

Thank you all for participating and supporting the Futuro de Frogtown effort. Our first meeting last August seemed like it was just yesterday. It has been a whirlwind of complex discussion and debate, made possible by each of your involvement.
As our partners who have helped to shape the Futuro strategy and opened up your spaces for the various events, we wanted to share the Draft Report with you in advance. As you can see, our original goal of a 5-10 page report didn’t pan out. However, we hope that the final report coupled graphics and copy-editing will result in a summary that all of us can acknowledge as authentic and nuanced. Please note the acknowledges on page 42.
