2016 Festival Information

Things to know about the 10th Frogtown Artwalk on Saturday, August 13 from 4-10pm:

1.  This year’s Artwalk is an official part of CURRENT:LA Water, the first public Art biennial in Los Angeles
2.  There will be a 6:00 awards ceremony honoring Lewis MacAdams (founder of the Friends of the Los Angeles River) and CD 13 Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell at the Frogspot
3. The event will stretch from Fletcher St to Eads (1.3 miles along the LA River). The Bowtie Parcel across the river will also host events.
4. The Artwalk will have more than 30 venues showing art. Each venue will be identified with a number that is shown on the map (coming soon). The venue identification numbers are being designed by LA Mas.
5. There are 3 official Artwalk stages with music: Marsh Park 2, Frogspot, and the Elysian Valley Community Garden at Rich Street.
6. The EVAC has sponsored 6 illuminated art installations along the LA River Path to encourage the use of the path as the primary circulation route for the event.
7. Pick up a full color printed program with information on all the venues, artists, music and events at the Artwalk.

 

Here is an overview of what is in store:
1. The event will stretch from Fletcher St to Eads (1.3 miles along the LA River). The Bowtie Parcel across the river is also included.
2. The artwalk will have more than 30 venues showing art. Each venue will be identified with a number that is shown on the map.
3. There are 3 official artwalk stages with music: Marsh Park 2, Frogspot, and the Elysian Valley Community Garden at Rich Street.
4. The EVAC has sponsored 6 illuminated art installations along the LA River Path to encourage the use of the path as the primary circulation route for the event.
5. There will be a full color printed program for the artwalk with information on all the venues, artists, music and events happening that evening.

Transportation/Circulation:
1. There will be free pedi-cabs along the River path from Fletcher to Eads.
2. Blake will be one-way heading south from Coolidge (where Cactus Gallery is) to Blimp starting at about 3:15 pm.
3. Knox and Newell streets will be entirely closed to traffic between the river and Blake Ave starting at 3:15 pm.
4. Parking is limited, so please take Uber or Lyft, ride a bike or carpool.

Parking:
1. There will be parking in the large lot at the Bowtie Parcel at 2800 Casitas Ave. Free shuttle buses will connect visitors from the parking lot to the event.
2. There will be parking at a series of parking lots at the south end of the event (also connected by free shuttles).

Food:
1. The artwalk is emphasizing local food this year. Food will be available at Salazar, Elysian, Spoke Bicycle Cafe, Wax Paper, local favorite Tacos Kevin, the Frogspot and at the community garden.
2. In addition, there will be local independent vendors selling sno-cones, popcorn, baked goods, tacos and tamales throughout.

Awards Ceremony:
The 10th Frogtown Artwalk is dedicated to Lewis MacAdams and his vision of the river restoration as a 40 year art project. We will be honoring Lewis MacAdams and Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell at a ceremony at the Frogspot at 6 pm. You are all invited.

CURRENT:LA Water:
The 2016 Frogtown Artwalk will include a visit to a CURRENT:LA Water commissioned art project at the State Parks Bowtie Parcel, 2780 W. Casitas Avenue, and will shuttle visitors back and forth between this work and the rest of theartwalk stretching along the west bank of the Los Angeles River in Elysian Valley. A grant from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs will help to sponsor a series of temporary illuminated installations along the river path.
