Subject: bridge crack
The Bureau of Engineering was recently notified by Nate Hayward of CD 14 of an article in the Elysian Valley News (see link below) reporting a crack and slight depression in the eastbound lane of the new Riverside Dr. Bridge.City Engineer, Gary Lee Moore, and Chief Deputy City Engineer, Deborah Weintraub, have been in communication with Rajni Patel, Project Manager regarding the report. Deborah and Rajni have visited the site and the issue has been discussed with the structural engineer for the project. The crack and small depression is in an area near an expansion joint in the bridge which currently has a temporary cover until such time that the full width of the bridge is completed and the final joint seal assembly can be installed. This is a non-structural localized crack in the temporary joint cover and there is no concern regarding the integrity of the bridge. A temporary patch has been applied in the meantime to smooth the driving surface. Here is the link to the article – a more current photo showing the temporary patch is also attached.https://evnw.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/elysian-valley-news-alert-8-24-14-riverside-figueroa-bridge-damage/We would like to thank Nate for the notification.
Please be aware of the below structure road failure on the new Riverside Dr./Figueroa Bridge Eastbound lane in the direction of Home Depot. Please drive with caution and avoid it all together if need be until such time as we have confirmation of road worthiness. I have communicated this to CD1 (Gil Cedillo’s Office) with copy to CD13 Councilmember O’Farrell’s office requesting their urgent intervention/evaluation and feedback.
We thank the alert EV resident(David Valencia) for bringing this to the attention of the EVNW.
