Meeting Minutes

EVNW Meeting Minutes – 11/9/2011

Following are the minutes from our meeting Nov. 9, 2011 (7-8 PM):

Senior Lead Officer Hill:

Reminded us all that “No Police Report=No Crime” and encouraged all to file a report for any crime against your person or property-no matter how small it might seem. We were reminded that crime can be reported anonymously and were encouraged to leave your call back number with officer for follow-up status.

There is a new pool of newly released ex convicts in EV and residents were asked to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity

Theft of late-model Toyota’s and Honda’s is on the rise as these are the vehicles of preference for thieves due to the ease with which they are broken into

The North East Station on San Fernando Rd. is selling “THE CLUB ANTI-VEHICLE THEFT BAR” for $11 dollars (available to all)

The mobile “Video Surveillance Camera” to be purchased by the EVNW and turned over to LAPD for monitoring/targeting hot crime areas was given great praise. We have begun our outreach to local area businesses and individuals to assist this purchase. We want to continue to grow the list of those who have already committed to assist so as to lessen the overall contribution. Our goal is to have the funds available for purchase before the year-end (Dec. 31st).

Mitch O’farrell-Council President Garcetti’s Office:

Delivered the good news that the two (2) “Share the Path Sign” – 4’ x 4’ in size are ready and will be installed in the coming week at the two LA-River Pedestrian/Bike path entry points. Special thanks to Mitch and Arsen Melikyan for their tireless work to bring this to fruition. Stay tuned for the installation ceremony announcement.

Mitch delivered additional good news regarding the re-installation of lighting to the LA-River Pedestrian/Bike Path. Refurbishing of the stolen copper wire will begin in January. A work start/completion time-line to be delivered to the community in the week.

Irrigation and landscaping along the LA-River Pedestrian/Bike Path is underway by the MRCA & Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy

Mitch closed his report with recognition to the EV community and its many representatives who have united to bring about these positive changes.

Neighborhood Watch Signs (Ready for Install)

The EVNW has ordered the necessary banding and mounting brackets for our installation of the 100 Neighborhood Watch Signs on hand. Delivery of the supplies is expected next Tuesday (Nov. 15) and we look to begin installation the following week in concert with LAPD.

Safety-VestsW/EVNW Logo(On Hand)

We have 13 safety type vests with EVNW logo to be worn during neighborhood outreach. The idea of purchasing walkie-talkies has been discarded given the readily accessibility of folks via cell phone.

Bulky-Item and Graffiti Abatement

Attendees were requested to report bulky-items and Graffiti on a daily/weekly basis to 311

EVNW Clean-up Walk covering Blake Ave. is being organized in conjunction with LAPD to beautify the area and bring awareness to the EV Neighborhood Watch Program. Stay Tuned for more information.
